Lake Naivasha

Lake Naivasha is a freshwater lake located on the floor of the Great Rift Valley, 2 hours northwest of Nairobi City. The Name Naivasha originated from the Maasai word Nai’posha meaning rough water. The lake has a depth of 6 meters and 139 square kilometers, but depth and surface areas change in heavy rainfall where the water level rises. Lake Naivasha is surrounded forest of yellow barked acacia and other forest trees, resorts accommodations, agricultural farms. The lake is also home to over 400 bird species. Major wildlife attractions at Mount Longonot include buffaloes, elands, lions, leopards, bushbucks, common zebra, giraffe, and Grant’s gazelles.
